Swedish Massage -
Your “classic” light to medium pressure full body massage. The “gliding and kneading” motions warm the muscle tissue which soothes the muscle and improves circulation. These techniques do not cause any discomfort like some of the more focused treatments. The swedish massage techniques break up “knots known as adhesions” which eases muscular strain, flushes out toxins, and ultimately releases tension allowing you to experience reduced emotional and physical stress. This “classic massage” is used to treat general anxiety and promote relaxation and is an excellent choice for first timers or people who do not receive regular massage services.
Deep Tissue Massage -
Deep tissue massage is a medium to heavy pressure focused or full body massage. Compared to the “classic” swedish style, deep tissue massage involves techniques using slow and deep pressure designed to penetrate through the deeper layers of muscle. It is the massage of choice to release chronic patterns of tension throughout the body and can be used to relieve pain and tension associated with muscle strain and sports injuries as well as other debilitating conditions. It is recommended that clients ice their muscles following this treatment or consider enhancing their massage with “cooling” essential oils or biofreeze. Ask your therapist if "cooling" options are available during your session.
Sports/ Athletic Massage -
This is a focused therapeutic massage originally designed to help athletes recover from competition or training sessions in order for them to reach peak performance. The ‘modern day’ sports massage uses techniques and stretching that ultimately detoxifies and relaxes the muscles which makes it a great massage for anyone (especially persons with limited range of motion, suffering from chronic pain or recovering from an injury). These same techniques stimulate the movement of lymphatic fluid and break down adhesions.
Timing is an important consideration with a sports massage. For optimal results, consider booking a sports massage to satisfy one of the following conditions:
Post event: received 1 or 2 hours just after an event to help the body decrease lactic acid buildup, detoxify and re-balance.
Restorative: performed in conjunction with training in order to increase performance and decrease the risk of injury.
Rehabilitation: to alleviate pain and restore homeostasis.
Trigger Point Therapy/ Neuromuscular Therapy -
Trigger Points are essentially “knots” found along bands of muscle tissue that may refer pain and tenderness to another place in the body. Imagine these “knots” are like those tied in a rope thus shortening the length of the rope. The therapist alleviates the pain caused by these knots by applying pressure to them and then holds the pressure until the trigger point releases which allows the muscle to return to its normal length. Receiving a trigger point massage can be uncomfortable or even painful but the rapid results can be quite astounding. This type of massage is frequently used for migraine sufferers or those with chronic back and neck pain and/or limited range of motion.
Myofascial Release-
Fascia is connective tissue that surrounds muscles while stabilizing tendons, ligaments, bones and regulating circulation in that area. Overuse, lack of use/movement, dehydration or scar tissue due to trauma can cause myofascial restrictions resulting in chronic pain and limited range of motion. The therapist will use a combination of passive and active techniques in order to improve the structural balance and function of the muscle. The techniques used are slow, deliberate and applied with little to no lotions or oils in order to allow the therapist to best manipulate the fascia without slipping. When receiving myofascial release, it is ideal to wear either a swimsuit or shorts +/- a sports bra so that the therapist has the best access to skin.

Chair Massage-
Chair massages date back to as early as 1898. This type of massage provides a convenient method for alleviating stress. No oils are used during a chair massage but the therapist combines acupressure and Swedish massage modalities in order to relieve tension and discomfort associated with repetitive motion injuries, such as carpal tunnel syndrome, or lower back pain caused by slouching at a desk for prolonged periods of time. This massage typically lasts 30 minutes or less where the client is seated in an upright position on a special massage chair, remaining fully clothed.
Please Note: The therapist will demonstrate the procedure for getting on and off the massage chair for those not familiar with its use.
